Welcome to our feature, 10 minutes in the tackroom. This is a regular feature where we ask riders, businesses and charities 12 questions and they have a maximum of 10 minutes to answer them.
This week in the saddle we have Melissa AKA Racing Down the Centre Line, You can follow Melissa on Facebook and Instagram
Tell us about your horse!
Cashpoint is a Thoroughbred ex-racehorse who won at Deauville, Goodwood and the Redcar Gold Cup. He started retraining in Dressage in September 2016 and in his first year of competing has already qualified at Prelim for the Petplan Area Festival and Thoroughbred Championship!
Tell us a horse joke!
What do racehorses eat? …Fast Food!
What do you do when you aren’t with your horse?
I’m working! I am Branch Manager for Michael Graham Estate Agents which I absolutely love – I get to see some truly beautiful properties!
What do you love about the horsey community?
I love how there is something for everyone! I have recently returned to riding after I hung up my eventing boots a few years back and to have the opportunity to be successful at dressage on an ex-racehorse is really exciting!
What do you dislike about the horsey community?
It’s very competitive – which is a blessing and a curse! Instead of feeling disheartened it is important to focus and set realistic goals for you and your horse rather than getting worried about where you ‘should be’ and what everyone else is doing! ‘We are all fighting our own battles’
Do your family share your passion of horses?
Absolutely! I couldn’t have achieved all I have without the support of my mum and Step Dad Ian. I am itching to get my nieces in to riding too – my brother and I used to have so much fun when we were kids! Luckily my non-horsey hubby does Triathlons so understands how much work needs to be put in and doesn’t begrudge (too often) long hours of work and then yard.
Tell us your funniest horse related story!
I was on the Prince Phillip Cup team with the Oakley Hunt West PC, I was never a very strong vaulter but at HOYS managed to vault straight over the top mid-race!! Definitely wasn’t funny at the time…..!
Who is your favourite famous horse rider?
It’s got to be Ben Hobday, he’s funny, cool, incredibly talented and with a fantastic attitude - very inspiring! - Read more about Ben Hobday here
Who is your favourite famous horse?
Valegro! He certainly inspired me to take dressage seriously and have fun dancing with my best friend. - Read more about Valegro here
How many times have you fallen off?
Too many to count!
What horsey product can’t you live without?
Not necessarily a horsey product but POLO’s are my secret weapon!
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself!
My dream is to compete in a Tailcoat!
Well done Melissa you have completed the 10 minutes in the tackroom challenge. If you would like to take part in the challenge, email info@equissimo.co.uk.
