Welcome to our feature, 10 minutes in the tackroom. This is a regular feature where we ask riders, businesses and charities 12 questions and they have a maximum of 10 minutes to answer them.

This week in the saddle we have Gemma AKA GSS Eventing, you can follow Gemma on her Facebook or Instagram

TELL US ABOUT YOUR HORSE
I own two horses, Chance (15.2hh) who is an Irish Sports Horse and Maybelline (13.2hh), my traditional cob. I have just started to compete with Chance in unaffiliated eventing, Hunter Trials and showing, whilst May is a fun all rounder who especially loves the show ring!

TELL US A HORSE JOKE
A pony went to the doctors complaining of a sore throat.
The doctor said, “it’s okay, you’re just a little horse”!
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARENT WITH YOUR HORSE
When I’m not riding or working, I enjoy dancing and regularly attend ballet classes!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THE HORSEY COMMUNITY
The friends who I have met along the way, through horses are friends like no other! They have seen me laugh and cry, my proud moments, my “opps” moments and have supported me in pursuing my dreams!
WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE ABOUT THE HORSEY COMMUNITY
The horsey world is full of critics. Critics who are too quick to judge, and throw hurtful comments around, forgetting that everyone is on their own journey. Whether that’s enjoying hacking or aiming to better your eventing antics, nobody should make you feel like you’re not good enough after all, we are all sharing the same passion, HORSES!
DO YOUR FAMILY SHARE YOUR PASSION OF HORSES
Although I’m the only ‘horsey’ member of the family, they all support me and enjoy reading my regular blogs (GSS Eventing on Facebook). I come from a farming family and our farm had two working shire horses, Tommy and Queenie.
TELL US YOUR FUNNIEST HORSE RELATED STORY
I’m sure I have had quite a few hilarious moments but one that my friends won’t let me forget was my first experience of taking Chance cross country schooling.
Upon arrival, I was feeling a little nervous (okay, so my knees were wobbling out of control), because I hadn’t even ridden Chance in a field in company through the fear of him reminiscing his hunting days! My friend mounts her pony by the trailers whilst Chance has grown to a dancing 17hh horse, snorting and pawing the ground! I opt to lead him into the field on foot and mount once through the gate! I climb onto the steps whilst Chance is doing circles around me so I said to my friend, “I’m just going to throw myself on and hope for the best”. As soon as my foot got into the stirrup, Chance took off at 100mph with me laying across him! I’m not sure if my somersault dismount or his solo jumping the course was more impressive!
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE FAMOUS HORSE RIDER
Geoff Billington has to be one of my favourites!
You can read more about Geoff Billington here
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE FAMOUS HORSE
I’m not sure if he counts but it has to be Warhorse - ‘Joey’. A heart-warming story highlighting the bond that we can have with our horses!
You can read more about Joey here
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE TO FALLEN OFF
I stopped counting a while ago, but it’s all part of it, isn’t it?!
WHAT HORSEY PRODUCT CANT YOU LIVE WITHOUT
Blue shampoo!! Having two skewbalds means there is a lot of white bits to scrub up before competing!
TELL US AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOURSELF
I used to regularly compete as a gymnast and trampolinist all over the UK!
